Attending My First Bridal Show…Here’s What It’s All About

The bridal show has many benefits for future brides within the Metro Detroit area. Prior to attending this event I had no idea what to expect.

My first experience of the bridal show was very overwhelming in both a positive and a negative way.

As an outsider looking in, I can see both sides on how the bridal show can offer help to a future bride-to-be or add tons of unneeded stress during the planning process.

Hey Brides,

My names Carlye, this upcoming year will be the most exciting year yet. I just celebrated my 21^st birthday in the summer, found out I’m going to be a maid of honor to my newly engaged sister and also have a Bachelors degree in Communication with a minor in Public Relations from Oakland University in the works.

I am currently a senior graduating this spring, so no one wants this polar apocalypse to be over more than myself!  After receiving my degree, my future goal is to enter into the wedding and event industry as a professional coordinator.

When provided the opportunity to get involved with local businesses for college credit, I couldn’t think of a better place to intern than with a company that has their hands dipped into the industry for more than 20 years. Better yet, they specialize in the main entertainment for the evening such as, DJ and Videography.

As my duties as maid of honor, intern, and soon-to-be bride myself (if my boyfriend is reading this, wink, wink) I recently attended my very first bridal show located at the Palace of Auburn Hills, MI.

My first experience of the bridal show was very overwhelming in both a positive and a negative way.  As an outsider looking in, I can see both sides on how the bridal show can offer help to a future bride-to-be or add tons of unneeded stress during the planning process.

The bridal show has many benefits for future brides within the Metro Detroit area. Prior to attending this event I had no idea what to expect. I was shocked by how many vendors were displayed and the large outcome that was produced for this event. It seemed like every bride and her mom were at the Palace that day.

Pros:

• All vendors are placed under one roof for your convenience
• Personal interaction
• Take home information
• Available discounts through raffles
• Bridal fashion show
• Take home freebies

Cons:

• Tons of people- can get lost easily if traveling with a group
• Hard to move around- long lines
• Loud atmosphere- hard to communicate
• Vendors can be pushy- pressure to “Book today!”
• Very time consuming- all day event
• Information overload

If you’re the spur-of-the-moment, quick decision makin’ kind of bride this event is perfect for you.

With that said, If you’re the kind of bride that needs time to sit back and absorb all the information, this event can appear physically, and mentally frustrating at first but, don’t let that discourage you!

The best advice I can give is to take all information home, research the ones that stood out in your mind and take everything one step at a time. Don’t worry about booking that day; it’s not worth the stress. Trust me!
